Lugano closes the gap on Zurich Lions

Lugano's victory over Zug places them in a good position to overtake league leaders, Zurich Lions Keystone

The year 2000's ice hockey matches have come to a nail biting finish. Lugano's victory over Zug on Saturday left them four points behind the overall leaders, the Zurich Lions, while they have played four matches less than the Lions.

Lugano beat Zug 4-2 to climb to 42 points in the overall standings. The league leaders, Zurich Lions, lost a crucial match to the league stragglers, Fribourg Gottéron, 6-3.

The Lions remained at 46 points after their stunning defeat at the hands of a team that has 26 points overall and is currently in ninth place overall.

Davos was beaten 4-3 by Ambri-Piotta. The win for the Ticenese side moved them up to 29 points overall, while Davos are in third position with 38 points.

Bern beat the Langnau Tigers 5-3, securing 34 points in the overall standings alongside Zug.

Just one point in the overall league table separates the Kloten Flyers from Rapperswil-Jona. Kloten won their match against Rapperswil 5-4, giving them 33 points overall.
