Viletta wins super-G in Colorado

Switzerland's Sandro Viletta captured his first World Cup win in a super-G in Colorado on Saturday.

Starting way back at 30th and with snow falling, Viletta soared down the Birds of Prey course in one minute 18.71 seconds to overtake Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway by 0.20 seconds. Beat Feuz of Switzerland took third place.

Before Saturday, Viletta’s best World Cup finish was fourth in a giant slalom nearly three years ago in Adelboden.

With the weather and the course precisely to his liking, Viletta stood in the starting gate and convinced himself to let loose.

“I risked all at the top,” Viletta said. “I just pushed as much I can.”

Veteran competitor Didier Cuche finished ninth, while in other World Cup events, Switzerland’s Simon Ammann finished 13th in the ski jump event in Lillehammer in Norway on Sunday.
