Storms wreak havoc in Swiss tourist regions
Heavy thunderstorms have caused havoc in many tourist regions in the Swiss Alps. Torrential rain flooded several roads and washed away a bridge, disrupting traffic.
Police in canton Graubünden temporarily closed off a bye-road around the mountain resort of Davos following Monday’s storms.
In canton Valais, an access road to the resort of Zermatt and another one in a nearby valley were closed for several hours. A stream broke its banks sweeping away a bridge.
One of the areas worst hit by bad weather was Ticino. A camp site, numerous roads and basements of buildings were flooded.
Mudslides and trees disrupted traffic. And emergency services had to evacuate guests from a hotel in a town near Lugano.
No casualties have been reported.
