“Out in the Green” called off

One of Switzerland's biggest open air music festivals, "Out in the Green", has been called off because of its organisers' fears that the event will leave them in the red. The festival was to have taken place at Winterthur near Zurich in mid-July. But the organisers said they were unable to guarantee its financial success. They also referred to problems over safety precautions, noise and traffic. Its cancellation follows years of financial uncertainty for "Out of the Green" since the first festival in 1987. The last one, two years ago in Frauenfeld, failed to break even and there was no festival in 2001 because an appropriate site could not be found.
