Cancellara struggles in Tour de France

Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara has failed to shine in Tuesday's stage of the Tour de France cycling race.

The time trial world champion, who was the favourite for the 29.5km stage, struggled from the beginning and finished fifth.

German rider Stefan Schumacher won the day ahead of Kim Kirchen of Luxembourg and Britain’s David Millar.

Schumacher also took the leader’s yellow jersey from France’s Romain Feillu, while Cancellara is in fifth position in the overall standings.

Wednesday’s 232km-stage from Cholet to Châteauroux is the longest and flattest of the race.
