Ammann jumps 141 metres for hill record

Swiss ski jumper Simon Ammann flew 141 metres on Sunday at Engelberg, setting a hill record and collecting his third World Cup victory on home soil.

The 2002 Olympic double-gold winner and 2007 world champion already won on Friday and finished second on Saturday.

He sealed his victory with the 141-metre jump, which earned him 144.8 points in an event that was reduced to one jump because of weather conditions.

Norway’s Bjørn Einar Romøren finished second and Japan’s Daitki Ito was third.

Austrian rival Gregor Schlierenzauer battled more difficult conditions and placed sixth, allowing Ammann to regain the overall World Cup lead he had relinquished on Saturday.

Ammann now has 424 points. Schlierenzauer of Austria has 382 and Norway's Romøren is third with 279.

Switzerland’s Andreas Küttel jumped 123 metres to place 14th. Young jumper Pascal Egloff survived the qualification round and finished 47th.
