Avalanche on a roll

Colorado's Chris Drury fires the Avs in front Keystone

Swiss goalkeeper David Aebischer remains on course for a second successive Stanley Cup win following a first round win by his Colorado Avalanche team-mates over the LA Kings.

As an understudy to legendary netminder Patrick Roy, Aebischer has again been a fringe figure on the Colorado roster this season. On Monday the 24-year-old from Fribourg was once more on the bench as the Avs saw off the Kings 4-0 in the deciding game of their series.

Roy kept out 23 shots to record the 21st play-off shutout of his career.

The victory sees the Avalanche into the Western Conference semi-finals for the fourth straight year. Their next opponents will be San Jose who visit Denver for match one on Wednesday.

Despite his role as number two in the Colorado goal, Aebischer managed to play in 26 matches last season and became the first Swiss player ever to lift the legendary Stanley Cup.
