Employment barometer rises again

More women are entering the workforce Keystone

The number of people with jobs in the fourth quarter of 2000 increased by 1.1 per cent year on year according to the latest figures by the Federal Statistics Office.

Statistics released on Tuesday show that the number of people now in work stands at 3,915,000.

The number of women and immigrants entering the workforce rose significantly, by two and 3.8 per cent respectively.

The short-term outlook also remains bright. The vast majority of sectors described employment prospects for the coming three months as positive.

The index of vacant posts also leapt by 30.5 per cent to 247.2 points.
