Federer advances in Miami

Top-ranked Roger Federer has won his opening match of the Masters tournament of Key Biscayne in Miami.

The Swiss star breezed past Nicolas Lapentti 6-3, 6-3 in little more than an hour on Saturday, using ten aces and winning 87 per cent of his first serve points.

“I’m relieved I’m through the first match,” said Federer won the tournament in 2005 and 2006.

Defending champion Andy Murray was eliminated by American Mardy Fish, while Novak Djokovic lost his first round match on Friday.

“I hadn’t even started playing yet, and there are two big names out of the tournament already. It worries me as well, being the top seed,” Federer said.

He will face Frenchman Florent Serra in the third round.

At the Indian Wells tournament earlier this month, Federer lost his third round match against Marcos Baghdatis.
