The Swiss tennis player, Emmanuelle Gagliardi, has made a poor start to the New Year, losing her first round match in the Auckland women's classic tournament in New Zealand on Monday.

Gagliardi was beaten by Anne Kremer in straight sets, 6-2 6-0. The fifth seed from Luxembourg left the Swiss little room to regain lost ground in the first set, and steamrolled her way to take the second.

Switzerland’s Miroslav Vavrinec was level with Israel’s Anna Smashnova, when the game was postponed due to bad light. The score stood at 6-4 2-6 4-4.
