It said on Thursday that the additional funding would help an additional 1.1 million people in the central and southern parts of the country, which have been hit by drought and conflict.
“The move comes in response to a situation that is becoming ever more desperate,” said Jakob Kellenberger, the ICRC president, in a statement.
“Hundreds of thousands of Somalis face life-threatening food and water shortages.”
The Geneva-based organisation said it had recently completed delivery of food and medical aid for 162,000 people in central and southern Somalia for the coming month.
An increase in funding would bring the ICRC’s total budget for Somalia to SFr120 million this year.
