Injured Pascolo dropped from national squad

FC Zürich's Marco Pascolo will be replaced on Saturday by Grasshoppers' Jörg Stiel Keystone

A pulled thigh muscle has forced goalkeeper Marco Pascolo off the national football team, four days before Switzerland's World Cup qualifying match against the Faroe Islands.

Enzo Trossero said on Tuesday he would be replacing Pascolo with Jörg Stiel.

Pascolo, who plays for FC Zürich, left the squad’s training camp at Goldach soon after Trossero announced the decision. FC St Gallen’s Stiel arrived to take his place late on Tuesday.

Despite the void left by Pascolo, Saturday’s match will still see a respectable line-up for the Swiss. Only Grasshoppers striker Hakan Yakin’s form remains in doubt.

The key players that were missing from Switzerland’s last international match – against Russia – should all be ready to put on peak performances against the team from the British isles.

Stéphane Chapuisat, David Sesa and Kubilay Türkyilmaz are all in top form.
