Language in Switzerland – Romansch

Switzerland has three official federal languages: French, German and Italian, as well as one semi-official language, Romansch (prono: Rum-ansh). Often described as sounding like "Latin with a Swiss-German accent," Romansch is spoken mainly in the eastern canton of Graubünden (prono: Grau-BOON-den). Although it is spoken by roughly 70,000 people in Switzerland, analysts predict that the language may die out by 2030 if steps aren’t taken to preserve it.
