Black sheep poster taken up by Czech extremists

The far-right National Party in the Czech Republic has adopted a poster of the rightwing Swiss People's Party to spread anxiety about foreign residents.

The three white sheep on the poster booting a black sheep out of the country stand on a Czech banner instead of the red and white Swiss flag.

“Stop crime, stop immigration” is written across the Czech version of the poster, displayed on the website of the National Party (Narodni Strana).

The message on the original Swiss People’s Party placard was more subtle: “For more security”.

But the poster was used to underpin a People’s Party initiative to expel foreign criminals, which was launched a year ago.

At the time, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on racism, Doudou Diène, called on the People’s Party to withdraw it.

He warned that the poster would only provoke racial and religious hatred.
