The Swiss men's number one, Roger Federer, has pulled off an impressive win against Hungary's Attila Savolt in the second round of the Australian Open.

The Swiss powerhouse beat the Hungarian hopeful 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 and will now go head-to-head with Germany’s Rainer Schuettler in the third round.

Federer, who arrived at the Australian Open fresh from his second career title in Sydney last week, gave a convincing performance and maintained his unbroken record of winning all his sets at this year’s tournament.

The Swiss rising star took the first set with ease 6-2, but the second set proved to be more tricky, with Savolt putting up a commendable fight.

Federer saved two set points with his booming serve to clinch the second set and then clawed his way back from 4-2 down in the third.

As a finale he won the last four games of the match on the trot.

“Confidence is very important and I’m just coming off a win in Sydney,” Federer told reporters after the match. “I think mentally I’m a lot better now as well.

“I don’t throw my racket any more,” he mused.
