Football: Lugano and Lausanne on top form
The Swiss League's two top teams cemented their positions on Sunday, Lugano and Lausanne both enjoying 3-0 wins.
Lugano made short work of Lucerne, with Argentina player Christian Gimenez pounding in three goals within the space of 18 first half minutes. With ten goals this season, he shares the honour of being top scorer with Basel’s Jean-Michel Tchouga.
Tchouga was unable to add to his impressive tally on Sunday against Lausanne. The Cameroonian had just one effort on goal in the early stages, only managing to hit the post.
Lausanne had no such problems, comfortably beating Christian Gross’s side with two goals from Marcin Kuzba and one from Pape Thiaw. Lausanne are yet to drop any points at home this season.
The weekend’s action leaves Lugano top with 25 points, followed by Lausanne on 24. Champions St. Gallen are third, with 18, followed by Grasshoppers with 16.
Neuchatel Xamax remain solidly rooted to the bottom of the table, with just seven points from their first 11 games.
