Schnyder knocked out by Ivanovic

Switzerland's Patty Schnyder has lost in the quarterfinals of the French Open in Paris to second seed Ana Ivanovic 6-3, 6-2.

It was the second time the tenth-seeded Swiss had managed to reach the final eight. The 29-year-old had previously lost in the quarterfinals in 1998.

The Serb struggled against Schnyder – the best left-hander in the world – only when trying to close out the victory, hitting her second and third double-faults of the match in the final game before smacking a service winner on the third match point.

The only Swiss remaining in the tournament, the second of the year’s four grand slam events, is top seed Roger Federer.

The world number one, who has never won in Paris, meets Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
