The Swiss team have won three additional medals at the eighth Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, bringing the total to 12.

Four-time paralympian, Hans Burn, won a silver medal in the men’s alpine skiing slalom event. Burn, who lost his left foot in a motorcycle accident, was competing in the LW4 category, open to athletes with disabilities in one lower limb, and which involves skiing with two skis and two poles.

Rolf Heinzmann and Hans-Jörg Arnold each won a silver medal in the same event, but in different categories. Heinzmann, who lost his right arm in a farming accident, was performing in the LW6/8 category.

It is reserved for athletes with disabilities in one upper limb, skiing with two normal skis and one pole. The disability must be such that the functional use of more than one pole is not possible.

Hans-Jörg Arnold, who is paraplegic, was competing in the LW12 category, which involves a sitting position.
