Wawrinka falls to Murray at Wimbledon

Swiss tennis number two Stanislas Wawrinka has been defeated by third-seed Andy Murray at the Wimbledon tennis championships in England after a five-set battle.

Murray won with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in what was the first match played under the new translucent roof on Monday evening.

“I tried everything but it was not enough,” Wawrinka said of the almost four-hour game. “It was very special, a nice atmosphere. It was very nice to play with the roof closed.”

Murray, who is bidding to become the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred
Perry in 1936, enjoyed the support of the home crowd. The Scot will now face Juan Carlos Ferrero in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The other matchups are five-times Wimbledon champion Roger Federer against the 2.08-metre Croat Ivo Karlovic, 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt against two-time finalist Andy Roddick, and Novak Djokovic against Tommy Haas.
