The side from canton Ticino were expected by many to be making up the numbers in this year's tournament after becoming the first Swiss team to be admitted into European competition.

But Thursday's win over the Lithuanians made it two wins out of four matches so far for Lugano, following their opening win against Zadar of Croatia.

Schalgiris Kaunas came into the latest game as clear favourites, their reputation further enhanced by a victory last weekend over Magic Johnson's touring side, the Magic Great Danes.

Lugano's American forward Jemeil Rich provided his own form of magic for the Swiss side on Thursday though, bringing Kaunas back down to earth with a personal tally of 29 points.
