Grünes Blatt: Thirteen Ways
Vocal / Folk / Experimental. Many folk tunes in Romania invocating Mother Nature begin with the mantra Foaie Verde, which means Grünes Blatt (Green Leaf) in German. This dictum is the eponym of both Bucharest-born, Swiss-based singer Irina Ungureanu's and Winterthur double-bassist Dominique Girod's sextet. Their debut album Thirteen Ways features filigree reinterpretations of the Carpathian country's wistful melodies. Most of these pieces enchant the listener with pure, glassy atmospheres, whereas others rock with a throbbing pulse. Furthermore the exceptional voice-trumpet-piano-violin-bass-guitar lineup springs rich sonic surprises.
