Neo-Classical / Modern. This double album of EMI's 20th-Century Classics series features Swiss composer Arthur Honegger and comprises diverse renditions recorded from 1964-1993. Born in Le Havre into a trader family Honegger received musical training at an early age. After subsequent studies in Zurich and Paris he eventually rose to fame as prominent member of the French composers circle "Groupe des Six". Besides Honegger's distinctive symphonies, this compilation includes his steaming classic Pacific 231, the peaceful Pastorale d'Été and the intricate, polyphonic Concerto da Camera a.o. These colourful interpretations serve as perfect introduction to the exciting work of this heavyweight.
