Joseph Haydn: Die Schöpfung – The Creation. Kammer-Solisten Zug

swissinfo.ch

In April 1798 Haydn directed the premiere of The Creation for a selected audience; the triumphant public premiere occurred in March 1799 in the Burgtheater in Vienna. Almost immediately various arrangements of the work appeared on the market, which for the most part were purely instrumental, clearly showing that the music of The Creation was also popular without its text. Presumably all such arrangements appeared without Haydn's consent, including Georg Druschetzky's (1745-1819) arrangement for a wind octet.
