Kamilya Jubran-Werner Hasler: Wanabni

swissinfo.ch

World / Electronica. About a decade ago Palestinian singer and oud player Kamilya Jubran met Swiss jazz trumpeter Werner Hasler. Soon afterwards a first duo album followed with idiosyncratic sounds between electronica and classic arabic chants. After hundreds of successful international appearances Wanabni marks a further step for this unusual duo. The commisioned texts by modern arabic poets come alive as sung along alluring scales by Jubran. Hasler's provocative samples and trumpet dots mark thereby refreshing counterparts.
