Modern Jazz. About ten years ago thirty something saxofone player Reto Suhner, who hails from the remote Appenzell town Herisau, made Zurich his home and working base. Ever since, this quiet character has become one of Switzerland's most prominent names in modern jazz. Above all, his unagitated alto tone, reductionist solos and let the ensemble play approach make him stand out from the crowd. Run is the farewell album of his twelve-year-old quartet, wherein only the music was the ego. The overall open ambiance on this recording gives the sound its soft thrill. Fortunately Suhner has re-formed a rejuvenated foursome and will continue his fruitful sonic journey.
