Alexandre Tansman (1897-1986): Sinfoniettas Nos 1&2 (1924&1978). Sinfonia piccola (1951/52). Symphonie de chambre (1960). Based in a region devoted to internationalism, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI) combines Swiss discipline and dedication with Latin imaginativeness and vitality. Established in 1935 as a radio orchestra, the OSI is supported in part by the Italian Swiss Radio and Television whose archives in Lugano contain thousands of recordings documenting its history. The OSI is responsible for numerous studio productions and has launched several festivals. It gives more than fifty public concerts a year and attracts guest conductors and soloists of world renown.
