Rolex watch sold for record price at auction

Rolex remains a very popular Swiss brand Keystone

A rare Rolex split-seconds chronograph watch has fetched a record price at a Christie’s auction in Geneva, being sold for SFr1.04 million ($1.16 million).

Produced by Rolex in 1942, the watch is one of only 12 models created, of which only eight are known to have survived.

The Rolex wristwatch (reference 4113) has a nickel-finished lever movement, 17 jewels, silver matte dials and applied pink gold Arabic and baton numerals.

It features several complex technical features, including a split seconds chronograph mechanism operated through two rectangular chronograph buttons in the band and a round chronograph button in the crown.

The timepiece was part of 420 lots sold by Christie’s in the western Swiss city on Monday.
