Massa from Brazil finished sixth just before his fellow driver Nick Heidfeld from Germany, who came home in seventh place. The result leaves Sauber in fifth position in the constructors' championship with nine points.

For the Sauber team a disappointing result as they are looking to defend their impressive fourth place finish in the championship.

However, the day turned out to be a victorious one for the Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, who finished the race in 1'35'07"426, just 0.294 seconds in front of his fellow Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher. This was Barrichello's first Formula One victory in two years.

Kimi Räikkönnen, who races for McLaren-Mercedes, finished in third place.

After the ninth race of the season Michael Schumacher remains in top position of the drivers standing with 76 points, followed by his brother Ralph with 30 points and Ferrari driver Juan Pablo Montoy with 27 points.
