The tournament opened on Thursday in the Swiss resort. The prize money is €2 million (SFr2.3 million).
Westwood, Kaymer and McIlroy – competing in his first tournament since injuring his right arm at the United States PGA Championship and in the news over his relationship with top-ranked tennis player Caroline Wozniacki – are all ranked in the top six.
Other big names include British Open winners Darren Clarke and Louis Oosthuizen.
Also present is Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez, who has played in the European Masters in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana every year since 1988 and who finally won last year – 22nd time lucky.
