Swiss ski star likely to miss Olympics

Keystone

Lara Gut, one of Switzerland's best medal hopes for the upcoming Winter Olympics, may not be fit to take part, according to her team.

Gut, who won silver in two of the disciplines in the last world skiing championships, damaged her right hip when she fell during training at the end of September.

The 18-year-old from canton Ticino underwent an operation in Bern on Friday, and will have to use crutches for the next four weeks.

Her team said she would not be able to ski until the middle of January. Originally it was hoped that she would return to the slopes in November.

The Olympics start in the Canadian city of Vancouver on February 12.
