Swiss skiers miss podium in Adelboden

Cyprien Richard of France and Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal have tied for victory in the skiing World Cup giant slalom in the Swiss resort of Adelboden.

They both finished with a combined time of 2’25.28’’ ahead of another Frenchman, Thomas Fanara.

Switzerland’s Marc Berthod came seventh while Didier Cuche and Carlo Janka finished in eleventh and thirteenth place respectively.

Favourite Ted Ligety was ahead after the first run, but the American made a big mistake and failed to make it into the top 20 in the final standings.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s women World Cup downhill race in Altenmarkt, Austria, was won by American Lindsey Vonn – her fourth victory of the season.

The best-placed Swiss skiers, Lara Gut and Dominique Gisin, came sixth and seventh respectively.
