Other teams in Europe zone Group E include Slovenia, Albania and Iceland. The draw was held in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
Speaking after the draw, assistant coach of the Swiss national team Michel Pont described the draw as “relatively kind”.
“If we have a full team, if we continue to drive the emergence of the new generation of players, teams like Norway and Slovenia, which is at about the same level as Norway, should be within reach. It’s up to us,” Pont told Swiss radio.
The winners of the nine Europe zone groups will immediately qualify for the World Cup, to be held in Brazil in 2014.
The eight best runners-up of the groups will contest round two in a home-and-away series to be held in November 2013.
