World Cup triumph for Annen

Swiss bobsledder Martin Annen has won the two-man World Cup title, despite losing the last race of the season to German rival Rene Spies.

Annen held a 17-point lead coming into the final race at Lake Placid, and was able to secure the overall title with a fourth-place finish despite Spies’ victory on the American track.

The canton Schwyz bobsledder is only the third skier to clinch the two-man title, following Gustav Weder in 1990 and Christian Reich last season. This time around, Reich had to settle for fourth place overall behind Annen, Spies and another German, Andre Lange.

Lange has already assured himself of victory in the four-man World Cup season, which comes to an end on Sunday.
