The mountain village of Kandersteg approved a credit of CHF1.2 million ($1.2 million) to build access roads to an existing ski jump should the Sion 2026 Winter Olympics bid succeed.
The local town hall assembly on Friday overwhelmingly approved a proposal after a brief debate, during which both the mayor and most citizens spoke of a chance that must be seized.
Kandersteg is a resort village in the Swiss Alps, about 55km outside the capital, Bern.
The decision comes as canton Valais gears up for a key June 10 vote on Sion’s 2026 Winter Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is due to choose the host city in September 2019.
Sion faces six other competitors, mainly from Europe.
Correction: an early version of this story erroneously stated in the lead the year 2016, instead of 2026.
