Glière, Prokofiev. Esther Nyffenegger. swissmusic

Reinhold M. Glière (1875-1956): 12 Albumblätter (Album Leaves) op. 51 for Cello and Piano; Sergej Prokofiev (1891-1953): Sonata for Cello and Piano in C major op. 119. Esther Nyffenegger, a native and resident of Zurich, began taking piano and cello lessons in her childhood. After obtaining her concert diploma for cello, she took master classes with Casals and Mainardi. She taught at the Conservatories of Winterthur, Lucerne and Zurich, and was professor at the Gedaj Music College in Tokyo from 1983 to 1986. Among the high points of her career were the world premieres of Heinrich Sutermeister's Cello Concerto no. 2, which he dedicated to her, and of Hans Pfitzner's Cello Concerto, written in 1888, but only discovered about a hundred years later.
