The International Committee of the Red Cross is participating in a cultural event in Brazil "to show the effects of armed conflict and the importance of respect for humanitarian law".

It has organised the exhibition within the framework of the “Switzerland 2000 in Brazil” festival in Sao Paulo.

The festival location is an outlying quarter of the city which attracts large number of young people at the weekend, and to attract their attention the ICRC has video recorded a message of peace accompanied by an extract from a song about peace by the Brazilian singer Gilberto Gil.

Among other things the exhibition has photographs showing the effects of war in Kosovo, Cambodia and Rwanda.

The exhibition is at the Santo Amaro Cultural Centre until June 17.
