Inventions draw big crowds to Geneva
The 39th annual inventions exhibition in Geneva has closed its doors, after attracting about 60,000 visitors – about ten per cent more than last year.
Some 765 exhibitors from 45 countries presented 1,000 inventions – many of them related to the environment and safety. There was also a pavilion dedicated to university creations.
The grand prize went to Swiss inventor Louis Conzett for his inflatable system to protect buildings against flooding. Made to measure, it can fend off water levels of up to four metres high.
An easy-to-load (and unload) shopping cart from Swiss inventors Marie Guerry and Julia Vaucher received the “Prix du Public”. A variety of other prizes were awarded to inventors from around the world.
Last year, the eruption of a volcano in Iceland prevented many European visitors from attending.
