Konkordia Hut to Mönchsjoch Hut (with attempt on Jungfrau 4,158m)

The party will cross Konkordiaplatz and make its way up the Jungfraufirn - the ice field that extends down from the Jungfrau and Mönch to join the Aletsch at Konkordiaplatz.

If weather conditions permit, the party will turn west to make an ascent of the Jungfrau. Swindin describes the Jungfrau as the mountain which is to “Interlaken what the Matterhorn is to Zermatt”.

During a visit to the Bernese Oberland in 1816, Lord Byron expressed praise: “Though Mont Blanc is higher, it is not equal in wildness to the Jungfrau, the Eighers…”.

Consisting of broad snow ridges, steep cols and rock and ice slopes, the most difficult part of the normal route – above the Rottalsattel – has been secured by fixed posts. The ascent takes about six hours, followed by a three-hour descent to the Jungfraujoch (3,454 m) and a final one-hour climb to the Mönchsjoch Hut.
