Tromba marina, trumscheit, trumpet violin, Mary's trumpet, or nun's violin are different names of the instrument that is placed centre-stage on this CD. The tromba marina was in use from the 17th century until into the 19th. In Switzerland, the instrument was played mostly in monasteries and churches.
