Bass Baritonist Hans Peter Scheidegger was born into a farming family in Switzerland's Jura region in 1953. He studied philosophy and history at the University of Berne.

At the same time he studied singing at the Berne Conservatory and at the Music Academy of Essen in West Germany. He has performed extensively in Switzerland and abroad. In 1982 he won the annual Soloists' Prize of the Swiss Musicians' Association.
