Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual Paléo Festival Nyon – Switzerland’s largest open-air festival – between July 20-25. What started out as a folk festival in 1976 has expanded to embrace a wide variety of music ranging from reggae to jazz, rap and hip-hop to rock.
This year’s line-up includes rock artists Iggy Pop, Bryan Adams and Simply Red, French chanson singer Charles Aznavour, and Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek with the medieval sounds of Britain’s Hilliard Ensemble.
World music performers include Femi Kuti from Nigeria as well as musicians from Romania, Algeria and Colombia.
The organisers are also highlighting performances by newcomers such as the Finnish group 22 Pistepirkko, described as the originators of an elastic pop that mixes psychedelic sounds and finely sculpted melodies.
