Rain douses Street Parade turnout but not mood

About 600,000 ravers braved downpours on Saturday to celebrate the Zurich Street Parade, which police say passed with no major incidents.

Officers said about 100 revellers had to be admitted to hospital. Police arrested 38 people, 26 for drugs and three for attempting to use counterfeit money. Otherwise they reported few problems.

“Still have a dream” was the motto of this year’s party, a 2.4km-long stretch of stages and open-air concerts where internationally renowned DJs and live acts performed all night.

Organisers had expected 800,000 people, but the rain dampened those figures, they said.

The event, which had a budget of SFr1.7 million ($1.57 million) in 2009, generates sales that are expected to exceed SFr100 million.
