For all his pronounced 'Englishness', R.L. Pearsall (1795-1856) chose to spend his last fourteen years in a castle (Schloss Wartensee) in Switzerland. He was open to current tastes and joined with the German Romantics in his enthusiasm for the Age of Chivalry.
