SBC boss wins prize for fostering cultural awareness

Armin Walpen, director of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, has won the Oertli Prize Keystone

The director of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, Armin Walpen, has won the Oertli Prize for his work in fostering better cultural relations among Switzerland's language regions.

Announcing the award on Thursday, the president of the Oertli Foundation, Franz Lamprecht, praised Walpen for his “Idée Suisse” concept, which he said had transformed the SBC’s radio and television output.

Walpen said the SBC – swissinfo’s parent organisation – was committed to reflecting all facets of Swiss society, both on an intellectual and emotional level.

The Oertli Prize, which prize comes with a cheque of SFr30,000 ($16,900), was created by businessman Walter Oertli in 1967 to encourage greater understanding among German, French and Italian-speaking Switzerland.
