Novartis reportedly hit by two new lawsuits

Reports from the United States say the pharmaceuticals giant, Novartis, has been hit by two new lawsuits concerning the drug, Ritalin.

The Wall Street journal says the cases in California and New Jersey accuse Novartis of conspiring with the American Psychiatric Association to “create” a disease called attention-deficit hyper-activity disorder.

Ritalin is prescribed to treat the condition.

The lawsuits are seeking class-action status for billions of dollars in damages on behalf of consumers.

They are likely to be followed by action in other states. A similar lawsuit has already been filed in Texas.

At that time, Novartis said the claims made were without merit.
