Swiss Broadcasting Corporation rewards two journalists with its Media Prize

Two radio journalists win the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation's Media Prize Keystone Archive

The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) in Bern has rewarded two radio journalists for their work. Dominique Jaccard and Peter Maurer received this year's Media Prize for their exemplary work in daily journalism.

Jaccard, who works for Swiss French Radio, was rewarded for his report on a survivor of the Gondo mudslide tragedy in canton Valais. His work was judged particularly bare and moving.

Maurer, a journalist at Swiss German radio, received the distinction for his report on a debate in Bümplitz regarding the European Union. The SBC rewarded him for the form of his account and the atmosphere it created.

The Swiss French television also distinguished itself for its coverage of the Gondo catastrophy. One of its correspondents working with another at Swiss Italian television were honoured for their joint report on a chemical pollution of the Toms River in the United States.

The distribution of prizes on Wednesday was followed by a discussion devoted to the quality of journalism.
