Fourth Harry Potter book comes out in French
Swiss children eager to catch up on the latest adventures of the child wizard, Harry Potter, can now buy the latest book in French translation.
Twenty thousand copies of “Harry Potter et la Coupe de Feu (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”) were delivered to bookstores across French-speaking Switzerland on Wednesday.
The French translation hit the shelves one month after the eagerly awaited German version arrived in Switzerland. Fans impatient to get hold of their copy overwhelmed bookstores when the first consignment of 60,000 books was delivered in October.
The French publisher Gallimard anticipates high demand for the French version too. “A second delivery is expected next week,” a spokesman said.
She said 450,000 copies of the French version had already been printed.
“Pottermania” has gripped French-speaking countries in recent weeks, and 1.25 million copies of the first three books have been sold in France alone.
The Potter series is the work of the British author J.K. Rowling. It is aimed at children aged 9 to 12, but has also attracted a cult following among adults.
