Amman falls back to earth

Simon Ammann finished with a total of 253.5 points at Lahti in Finland Keystone

The Swiss ski jumper, Simon Ammann, has taken sixth place at his first World Cup event since his double gold medal at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

Ammann, who ended sixth in the first jump, was unable to match the performance of the current World Cup leader, Poland’s Adam Malysz, who finished second at Lahti in Finland.

Malysz was defeated by the winner of Friday’s competition, Germany’s Martin Schmitt, who finished with 266.8 points. Slovenia’s Robert Kranjec (261.7 points) took the bronze.

Ammann finished with a total of 253.5 points. He reached 121.5 meters with his first jump, and 123 with the second jump.
