Métraux expands presence in vehicle navigation market

Métraux Services of canton Vaud is taking over Alpine Electronics Switzerland, in a bid to strengthen its position as a supplier of car navigation systems.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed which also means that Métraux will become the main importer of products from Alpine Electronics from Japan.

Under the deal, Alpine Switzerland’s activities are to be incorporated into Métraux’s automotive division.

The acquisition comes a month after Métraux listed on the Swiss stock exchange.

Métraux is by far the larger company. It had a turnover last year of almost SFr300 million and employs 765 people. Alpine Switzerland recorded sales of SFr7million for 1999.

As well as car navigation systems, Métraux is a leading provider of services for the chemical industry and the recycling sector.
