“La Route de la Soie”, or “Silk Road” by Maurice Béjart has premiered in Lausanne. The performance depicts the story of a man’s journey from Venice to China, and takes in a variety of influences from countries such as Turkey, Iran and Mongolia on the way.

Béjart – the French creator of the Béjart Ballet in Lausanne – says the piece brings together fragments of sequences used in previous performances inspired by Oriental themes.

“Silk Road” uses traditional music as well as colours to evoke the moods of the regions travelled through: Mediterranean indigo, Islamic green, safran yellow, revolutionary red.

The piece is on until 15 June at Malley-Lausanne.
